Unfair VAT Bill for Dog Charity funded by Public Donations
Why this petition matters
Dundalk Dog Rescue, a small community based charity run entirely by volunteers have been fundraising for 5 years to raise enough money to build their own centre -having paid unsustainable kennelling bills to commercial kennels since we were set up 2005. In that time we have helped re-home thousands of dogs, taken from local pounds, saving local authorities huge amounts of money and giving dogs who otherwise would have been put to sleep a lifeline. With no help from the Government or funding from local authorities we are building our centre, using donations from our supporters and a loan from the bank. The Government is insisting that we pay VAT on all the materials we are using for the build. They are insisting that we hand over money people have donated to us to help build the centre. They want over €65,000! It takes a lot of sponsored walks, table quizzes, cake sales and street collections to raise that money! This is a disgrace and grossly unfair. We are a non-profit, already under huge pressure to raise money. Not only are the Government not offering us any financial help with our construction, they are actively taking the money we have managed to raise. Please help us make them listen! This is not right!!
