Why this petition matters

Started by Sonha Nguyen

We inherited a broken computer and outdated unemployment system in Florida. The regular citizens have no say so or oversight in this system and politics. We need a voice ... a voice that can be heard, and a voice that the politicians of the state of Florida will listen to and take seriously. We hear excuses and apologies but we do not see anything that is working or being done. While citizens of Florida go hungry and poorer by the day from being out-of-work due to the Coronavirus, the politicians just spin things to appease us and just say things will get better .. things will get fixed. there is no accountability ... their is no oversight ... there is nothing for the people of Florida ... only politicians words that we should tough it out ... we should be stronger ... we should not complain. While, the politicians are spending time in their big houses and mansions ... with a job ... with money ... with not a care of what is happening around them or about the people of Florida. How many people have been trying to file for unemployment for weeks with no avail ? We are expected to wait til things get fixed ... wait for a measly unemployment checks, if we do get one which is way below the average for the nation. Stand up ... be counted. I, for one, have stood around and not said a word, but, one can only stand on the sideline for so long...  to see all the injustice that comes out when there is a crisis. We will not be quiet anymore !!!

Let your politicians know that you want the Florida unemployment to change or you will vote them out. Right now, GOP led House are not willing to change the current ineffectual unemployment benefits which is the lowest in the country ... In Florida, your weekly benefit amount is calculated by dividing your total earnings for the highest paid quarter of the base period by 26, up to a current maximum of $275 per week. You can receive benefits for anywhere between 12 to 23 weeks, depending on Florida's current unemployment rate.

The Governor said it normally takes “2-3” weeks for someone to receive money after filing a claim but some people haven't received payments after filing more than four weeks ago

Other states unemployment benefit rates:

Illinois – $1,495.
Massachusetts – $1,179.
Maine – $855.
Ohio – $753.
Connecticut – $706.

The DEO Connect website is still experiencing problems and our Florida Republican politicians do not think this needs to be fixed at all or even look into ... please forward this petition to your social medias and lets get this website and our broken unemployment system fixed asap.
