South Milwaukee Nurses Job is in Jeopardy.
Why this petition matters
Hello, I am a student at South Milwaukee High School, and it has come to my attention that our school district wants to replace our school nurse with a “teachers aid” who will not be a nurse. The nurses name is Trish Heller, and she works at our high school for 3 hours during the day. Our school district also has a full time nurse, but she travels around the whole district which includes 4 elementary school, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. Mrs.Heller is there to help all students, regardless of if their health issue is mental or physical!
The school district is looking to eliminate her position as a nurse. She has a bachelors of science in nursing degree, she is a registered nurse, and has done a lot of training to get where she is. Mrs.Heller has also, and still does a lot of training with diabetic students. She has always been an advocate for all of her kids.
Mrs.Heller’s position is now being threatened, and without support could get eliminated. The South Milwaukee School District believes that this is a way to save money, but is the health of 3,100 students worth saving a few extra bucks? As a student I believe our health should be a top priority, especially in the school system, and that we shouldn’t have to sacrifice it.
Please consider signing this petition, the school board meeting is tomorrow, Wednesday 19th at 6:30 pm, at South Milwaukee High School. All signatures will help to save an amazing school nurse from losing her job helping the students of South Milwaukee High School.
