Why this petition matters

·        When medical cannabis became legal in Minnesota, the legislation was written to create good jobs for workers, with legislators specifically working to avoid creating a low paying service industry

·        Vireo workers kept the doors open and served patients through the pandemic, keeping up with changing business hours and bringing patients their medicine at the curb through the hot summer and freezing winter

·        The union helped advocate for the legalization of medical flower, which the employer believes will increase profits- telling shareholders they expect a profit increase of 300%

·        After flower passed, after the pandemic regulations are starting to lift, and after everything the workers have done to help this business succeed the employer decided to cut pay and take away chairs for workers in the patient care centers

·        Under the company’s last offer, workers would no longer progress through the pay scale, freezing them permanently wherever they are- meaning that only a handful of senior workers will make the top pay, and all others will always lag behind, going back on the understanding workers had when they were hired

·        This could disproportionately harm new workers of color, who have already been disproportionately harmed by cannabis laws for years

·        And to top it all off, workers have come back from lunch to find supervisors have taken their chairs and sometimes locked them in a vault. Workstations that were designed to use while seated have been badly retrofitted in an arbitrary decision to force workers to stand without any consideration for ergonomics or worker comfort. Job descriptions have been rewritten to require workers to stand for their entire shift without any discussion. All of this is apparently an attempt to create a retail environment even though this is a healthcare facility

·        Throughout negotiations, the employer has failed to provide information the union requested, changed discipline procedures, terminated an outspoken member who was on the negotiating committee, and added language to the last, best, and final offer that was not negotiated. The Union has filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board on these counts.

·        Sign to demand fair pay and respectful treatment for cannabis workers in Minnesota!
