Why this petition matters

Problem: The Resistance franchise ended prematurely before it's brilliance could be fully realized.

Solution: While not a slam dunk by any means, Insomniac Games has stated that Sony owns the Resistance property. The future of the franchise is in Sony's hands. If enough interest is expressed, maybe Sony will consider funding another installment.

Summary: On January 26th 2012, Insomniac Games published a YouTube video, of CEO Ted Price, expressing to fans, "Insomniac Games would not be moving forward with the Resistance franchise." Now I can only speak for myself when I say this but, to me, the announcement definitely came as a little bit of a shock initially but, when logically thought over, shouldn't have been a surprise. Throughout it's "life cycle" Resistance was nothing short of a volatile franchise. It's introduction as Resistance: Fall of Man started strong and was well praised/received by both fans and critics alike.

However with each iteration following after, there were changes/face lifts occurring to the brands identity. When Resistance 3 launched in September of 2011, it had seemed Insomniac Games had proper footing with the intellectual property once again. In my eyes, it was to be the necessary stepping stone in delivering a proper sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man. Unfortunately though that would never come to fruition.

It's now been several years since the last Resistance game was released. (See Resistance: Burning Skies on the Playstation Vita.) and Insomniac Games was true to their word for the most part...there have been no plans to make another Resistance game. This current generation, Playstation 4, is coming to a close and I can't help but feel a tad bit of jealousy towards fan-bases of franchises like God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, InFamous, Killzone...the list goes on and on. When I see where technology is going/headed, I can't help but imagine what it'd be like to see what a Chimeran hybrid rendered in today's graphical feats.

To this day Resistance: Fall of Man reigns for me, and many others, the "bar" of what a video game is supposed to deliver. It's kind of disheartening that in the past twelve years, no game has come even close to replicating the experience/community Resistance: Fall of Man had. Insomniac Games did a lot of revolutionary features at the time and were some of the first developers, in my experience, to really give back to their community and fan base. As time moves on and Insomniac has time to reflect on the franchise itself, I think they're slowly starting to realize/see that. Insomniac has stated in a few recent interviews and on their twitch channel that it was somewhat premature to say, "Never." The prospect of returning to the Resistance franchise after the long hiatus is intriguing but, Sony owns the intellectual property, not Insomniac.

Which brings me to this petition. I don't have high hopes of anything coming from this but I feel the least I can do is attempt to make an effort/possibly open the channels of communication to all parties involved and maybe get something rolling. I've been on a lot of message forums/various gaming sites all of which echo the same sentiment, "Resistance is long overdue for another installment and should not have been left in the era of Playstation 3."

With Sony taking pride/pushing exclusives for their console, I wholeheartedly believe now, more than ever, Resistance deserves at least one more shot at becoming something truly memorable to the industry. As a diehard fan of the property, so much so as being called it's number one fan by Insomniac Games themselves, I firmly believe so much was left on the table in terms of possibilities that, even if Insomniac chose to not return to helm the installment, there's a lot of room left for a developer to leave their mark.

Here's hoping that, in the final words of Nathan Hale, "This is just the beginning."

Thank you for taking the time to read and sign.

All the best.
