Call to Government for ALL Small Ltd Companies to get access to grants during COVID-19

The Governments COVID-19 support package for businesses does not account for MOST Small  Businesses in the UK. They are in crisis and many will close for good.

Effecting (source FSB)

  • 5.82 million businesses/self-employed with less than 0-49 employees
  • Three fifths of the employment and around half of turnover in the UK private sector
  • 16.6 million workers (60% of UK workforce)
  • Estimated turnover of £2.2 trillion (52% of GDP)

MOST of these businesses are not eligible for any Grants to pay essential business overheads and are being pressed to apply for Bank Loans that will only ADD to the impact on their businesses.

They are not eligible for 'furlong' as, many of these companies, are sole directors, co-directors, contractors. So, if they 'furlong', aside from essential Directors required duties, they cannot work for their own business. Excluding them from 80% pay support from the Government (that Self-Employed are eligible for) a separate petition is pressing for that rule to be changed.

Why am I raising the petition

To support all Small Ltd Companies, who have not been considered by the UK Government as 'essential' to driving the UK out of potential recession as a direct result of the Covid-19 impact. No small businesses means many of the services, products and trades we take for granted simply disappearing. Impacting larger businesses, families, communities and the UK as a whole.

Small Ltd Companies aren't large, rich organisations but often:

  • Tradespeople - Plumbers, builders, electricians...
  • Service providers - Graphic designers, Marketing Specialists, Caterers, Taxi drivers...
  •  And so many more ordinary people earning a legitimate living.

A significantly larger impact than the Financial Crash of 2007-8

Unless these businesses are supported NOW the Crash will look like a small 'blip' according to many Economists. As Small Businesses owners, given a small period of support, we can help reduce that impact and drive innovation to massively accelerate regrowth once the virus peak has passed.
