Why this petition matters

The Salt Creek Tiger Beetle is one of the world's rarest insects.  It is only found in Lancaster County and its numbers are dwindling.  In 2005, the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle was placed on the Endangered Species List.  By saving the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle, we will also be saving its habitat, the Saline Wetlands, which provide a home for both the beetle and over 230 species of birds.  These wetlands help with flood control, water quality, and aesthetics.  The Saline Wetlands also provide fun recreational opportunities such as hunting, trapping, and wildlife photography.  In order to save these endangered creatures and their important habitat, we must petition to change the Nebraska State Insect from the honeybee to the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle, Nebraska’s very own endangered species.
