The Famicom Detective Club games are seminal classics in the adventure, visual novel, and detective genres. At least, they are in Japan. Sadly, those of us outside Japan never got to play these amazing titles. However, their status as classics is indisputable, as both titles received remakes for the Game Boy Advance, the sequel also got one on the SNES, and both titles were ported to the Wii and Wii U's virtual console - all in Japan.

Recently, on September 4th, Nintendo held one of their live presentations. While these are broadcast live simultaneously around the world, a few titles were different; one that wasn't shown to Western audiences was a remake of both Famicom Tantei Club games, built from the ground up for the Switch.

Now, while these games never released outside of Japan, it wouldn't be true to say they don't have fans outside Japan. There is a sizeable cult following, one only spurred on by the release of an English fan translation of the second title. So when fans found out there would be a remake, the reactions were of joy and hope. Joy for seeing these beloved characters gain a new lease on life, and hope for finally being able to experience these stories as intended by their original creator.

Localization for a visual novel is not a cheap endeavor, and not a safe one either. It's a very text intensive genre, so the costs are higher than a regular game, and it has a smaller audience, thus making it risky. However, there's also examples of visual novels breaking out and enjoying massive success - franchises like Ace Attorney (6.9 million units sold as of March 2019), Professor Layton (over 17 million units as of June 2018) and Danganronpa (around 1.3 million units as of November 2018) show that there is a market for these titles when advertised and budgeted accordingly.

The goal of this petition is to gather signatures to show Nintendo there is a fanbase for this series and this genre amidst their consumer base, and so to hopefully spur a localization for the remake.
