Why this petition matters

This petition is currently on hold as of 2022 until further notice. The issue has not been solved, and has only become worse with YouTube progressively having more and more problems (such as ads, scam bots, animal abuse videos, copyright abuse, dislike removal, controversial decisions, etc.) Anyone who wants to further pursue the matter may do so. Much larger issues have also been discovered with pornography as a whole, and a new petition is currently being created to minimise the negative effects of porn.

There are almost ten thousand documented videos listed on YouTube, a public site with almost half of all its users being minors, with thumbnails that show sexual, implied, explicit or close-up nudity and even visible/invisible PORNOGRAPHY, in all kinds and forms, human and animal.

Argue all you want about a video: if the thumbnail shows any of the above, change the focus and make it completely asexual, rather than attempt to censor it (as some people try to do, without it helping).

Petition-related links:

  • The Medium article: An article that I wrote on Medium, in a currently-fruitless attempt to extend the cause. It generally contains all the details and information you need in a polished, organised form, besides the videos listed in the documentation of offending videos (which is undergoing changes), as well as full, polished plans for YouTube to assist in its moderation of its videos.
  • An outdated petition: A closed petition like this one that's over 6 years old and has only 150 supporters, but without any truly explicit imagery. I've tried to contact the petition starter, but she never said anything and I don't even think I really have any way to bring this to her attention apart from commenting in her update.

Problems:

  • There are more than SEVEN THOUSAND listed videos on YouTube, a public site with nearly half of all of it's users being children under 18, with thumbnails that have sexual, implied, explicit or close-up nudity and even visible/invisible PORNOGRAPHY, in all kinds and forms, including human and inhuman right now.
  • Many of the offending thumbnails are victim to YouTube's automatic thumbnail picking system, and are sometimes chosen with perverted intentions.
  • Some of the videos are a part of EDSA (education, documentary, science and art), which makes any nudity shown passable even to the point of lacking restriction (which is pretty perplexing to me considering how even pornography is a form of art since humans have been stylising everything).
  • Most people don't seem to realise that these videos are still listed when logged out, even though they still prompt you to log in to confirm your age when you click on them. Some of them are even visible when in Restricted Mode, many of which are still just as NSFW and heinous!
  • There have been reports of some of these videos showing up in YouTube's default homepage on mobile.

Goals:

  • I want YouTube to read the article I have written and have HQ address it. This should solve all of the below problems, since I am unable to hold a steady conversation with anyone from YouTube.
  • I want YouTube to start adding videos with explicit/near explicit thumbnails to their moderation.
  • I want YouTube to enstate a rule in the Community Guidelines in which it's a violation of them to post a video with any explicit imagery in the thumbnail, regardless of any content or context. On that note, they seem to have already done that, but why aren't they addressing all of these videos I'm reporting to them? Is it because the thumbnails weren't "custom"?
  • I want YouTube to start buffing their automatic thumbnail generating system in some way to ensure that videos filled with explicit sexual content are ensured to not have explicit thumbnails. Here's how I think it'll work: Since YouTube wants to make custom thumbnails a privilege, the thumbnail generation system will be basically the same. However, if all of the thumbnails are explicit, the user must use a generic thumbnail based on the video's category, the user's profile picture or their channel picture. If they choose a thumbnail that's explicit anyway, it will still warrant a report. They might also be able to choose to alert YouTube if they want, so YouTube can pick a decent thumbnail themselves. However, this won't be high priority for them.
  • I want YouTube to unlist some restricted videos when logged out since they're clearly about adult topics that children aren't yet supposed to know about from the thumbnail and/or title, such as subjects related to privates, swearing, other NSFW topics, etc.

Common Attributes Of Videos:

-Thumbnail was clickbait (rarely done, but mentionable nonetheless)
-Thumbnail was chosen by YouTube's thumbnail picking system
-Thumbnail was improperly censored, or done so in a way that doesn't help (for those of you out there who tried, you should know that there are people out there on mobiles and people that are able to see the max-resolution images)
-Thumbnail had unknown or misleading content
-Thumbnail had real imagery, real/digital models, illustrations or shapes/shadows
-Video was foreign
-Video complied to EDSA

Common Types Of Videos (common subtypes):

-Animation
-Anime/hentai (anime gameplay, anime music videos, Highschool DxD, MikuMikuDance)
-Art/illustration (olden illustrations, "polluted mind" drawings)
-Breastfeeding
-Dildo/sex toy showcasing
-Documentaries, presentations and education
-Gameplay (Conan Exiles, modifications, Summertime Saga)
-General public nudity (body painting)
-Health treatments, tips and other content
-Medical content (I've recently found some extremely nasty ones about surgery on privates)
-Movies/movie clips
-Museum exhibitions
-Music videos (The SoapGirls)
-Non-human content
-Performances
-Photography (Sports Illustrated (Swimsuit))
-Television (fashion shows)
-Tribal/foreign/non-urban footage (African culture)

Common Censorship Mindsets:

-Animal privates don't have to be censored (not surprising considering how we specist people censor human "tits" but not cow teats)
-Dildos, drawings and other "false" imagery don't have to be censored (there was literally a video where they censored everything but the dildos)
-Any kind of censorship is good enough (some people are half-botheredly pixelating and blurring images, and that only decreases the quality of the image - it does no other good, and people are also just putting text over things you can see between the letters)
-Anything they don't see or think we don't see (mainly because it's too small or dark) is allowed to stay uncensored
-The boundaries of nipples don't have to be censored
-Pornography is allowed as long as it's censored or invisible (applies to the petition image as well, since censorship on invisible pornography made it too unclear)

Necessary Opinions (see above list):

  • There are these videos on YouTube where they display imagery intended to trick you into thinking it's NSFW, or where they draw things that start out as drawings of sexual things, but then suddenly turn it into something unexpected and/or kid-friendly, and have video titles like "dirty mind" and "mind pollution". Look, even if you have an otherwise "clean" person, what do you expect? Only dirty things would come to mind when showed these videos. We as humans are finding patterns and connecting things, and apart from the "dirty" things you have in your videos, there's no patterns to tie things together. OF COURSE we're going to be "dirty-minded". In these "polluted mind" videos, YOU'RE the one polluting our minds. Like even a child could figure out what was going on and heck, even learn about sex by watching them! This is not okay, seriously! Also I don't care if whatever else people show us is fake, people will still take notice and make true/false assumptions, and a lot of other bad things.
  • Amongst some of the videos about African culture, there are these ones where they stand up against Google, Facebook, the public and other things for "being racist" and stuff because they're shaming them, the women and the children, for being nude (specifically, topless). And you know what? They're kind of right. We're just barging in, asserting ourselves and bestowing rules upon them saying they're not allowed to show their breasts. All their other privates are covered. Well you know what? There are sensitive and dodgy people around, and just like other videos complying to EDSA, the least they can do is make their thumbnails so that the privates aren't visible. We still need to stop newbie children from getting the wrong ideas and deciding to just be naked in public, starting a lot of problems. Also there are some where they're fully nude (mostly males).

How You Can Help:

The main goal for us is to get YouTube's attention so they can read this petition and fulfill it's goals. The methods of helping are listed from least effort to most effort.

  • Sign this petition. We're counting on you.
  • Share this petition. This is the most important thing you can do to gather more people to help accomplish the following goals. Share it on any social media, your friends and family, whoever.
  • Mass contact YouTube on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and any other social media they have. You don't have to mass contact them individually - just do it as a group. For all of us. YouTube also has various accounts, so make sure to tag multiple of them to get a higher chance of getting their attention. Just so you know, I have a Twitter account and a hashtag with the same name.
  • Try to use YouTube employees or big YouTubers to spread the word. Using YouTubers with a higher association value will help more than trying to contact them yourself, and it will also increase the chances of someone being able to have a steady conversation with them. Ideally, that would be me, but I'm anonymous and it's not likely they'd do anything on social media for me. There are some YouTube/Google employees on Reddit in their subreddits, and some in YouTube Help.
  • Fax them at +1 650-253-0001 or mail them at YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. You can also see if there are other methods of contacting them here.
  • Promote this petition so more people get to see it.
  • Contact the press and media if you can or want to.
