Raise a Buffalo Braves Banner at Keybank Center
Raise a Buffalo Braves Banner at Keybank Center
Why this petition matters
Our city, Buffalo, New York, once had an NBA team, the Buffalo Braves from 1970-1978. They were successful at points in their short-lived history, but turned heads with exciting play and playoff berths. They notably battled the stalwart Boston Celtics in a vigorous playoff series. When they left town in 1978 for San Diego, California (they now are the Los Angeles Clippers), it seemed as if the city of Buffalo and the downtown arena (that has gone through many name changes, currently the Keybank Center) forgot about them. Absolutely no banners or flags were raised or hang within the Keybank Center to commemorate the Braves' existence. I feel that this is a true travesty, as it is completely ignorant and disrespectful toward Buffalonians, and former players and coaches such as legends like Bob McAdoo, Randy Smith, Ernie DiGregorio, Gar Heard, Dr. Jack Ramsay, Dolph Schayes, and etc. The fact that nothing appears in the confines of the arena to remember Buffalo's NBA heritage is truly an issue that needs to be solved as soon as possible. While it is great to see the Clippers wear Buffalo Braves themed uniforms this season, it is simply not enough. I am calling on the Keybank Center executives, Pegula Sports and Entertainment, Terry and Kim Pegula, the Buffalo Sabres and Bandits, Mayor of Buffalo Byron Brown, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the city of Buffalo as a whole to right this wrong, and permanently cement our city of Buffalo's NBA heritage where it belongs for all patrons of the Keybank Center to be able to witness and appreciate.
