Why this petition matters

Started by Oakville Rangers Hockey Club

The Oakville Rangers Hockey Club needs your help to stop the ongoing ice cost increases by the Town of Oakville. The Town are planning to increase the cost of ice by 4.5% again next year - we must put an end to these constant increases which are making playing ice sport financially challenging for residents.

Ice cost is the largest expense the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club incurs - making up 55% of the annual operating budget.

From 2015 to 2019, the Town of Oakville has increased ice costs by 25%. A sheet of ice was $175.85 in 2015 and now costs a whopping $215.25! Inflation in Ontario during that same time was only 5.3%.

The Oakville Rangers Hockey Club plans to join with other organizations using Oakville ice time to achieve a preferred rate for ice costs. The goal is to implore the Oakville Town Council to direct Parks & Recreation to review the costing formula for ice to align with cost of living increases.

We plan to approach the Town before the end of the year to ensure that the voices of as many people in the Town as possible are heard on this issue.

We need you – hockey and skating enthusiasts of Oakville. Parents, players and participants. We need your voice. We need your support. Please sign and share this petition to ask the Town of Oakville to review its ice costing policy for youth ice sports in Oakville. Let them know this is not acceptable!
