The disastrous failure of the recent re-organisation of Wellington city’s bus system can be explained by the dysfunctionality of the current local government structure here. Greater Wellington Regional Council has proved that it is incapable of managing Wellington's public transport infrastructure. The rivalry and confusion between GWRC and the city and district councils here have contributed in a major way to the failure of the bus system.

This petition is directed to the Local Government Commission in support of an application to abolish Greater Wellington Regional Council. Its powers, budgets, authorities, responsibilities and assets would be divided up and allocated to the current, existing city and district councils in the Wellington region, converting them to unitary councils.
