Why this petition matters

Started by Geoff Old

In recent years, the cost of veterinary treatment for your pet has significantly increased. In the last five years, the average cost of treatment has increased by up to five times, in some practices and, as a consequence, the cost of pet insurance has soared. This has to end as the long-term impact is simply animal suffering as owners will decide that they cannot afford to treat their animal, to have insurance, or even to have a pet at all. Currently, there is little regulation of vet fees , nor a regulatory body that examines those fees. This petition is designed to draw attention to the issue and also to bring about a change, enforcing the creation of a regulatory body so that animal lovers are not forced into a decision based on price more than the love and care of their animals. I recently paid nearly £1,000 for an X-ray for my dog. When I asked why the charges were so great it was said that it was because the vet simply charged what their owning company told them to charge. Apparently, she needed more anesthetic as a large dog - she's 30kg, not an Old English Mastiff; and hospitalisation, which is now the name for your dog having to stay with the vet until the end of the day. This affects so many of us and something needs to be done to ensure that pets are cared for properly.
