Join Students, Parents And Teachers In Demanding That The California State Legislature Make Public Education A Top Priority

California has the 5th largest economy in the world. Yet, out of all states in the US, California ranks 44th in per pupil spending. Many schools across the state have overcrowded classrooms and lack basic resources such a textbooks, printer paper, and even paper towels. Additionally, schools have very limited supports in the form of school counselors and nurses. Lastly, in many districts, teachers are overworked and underpaid, resulting in high teacher turnover and discouraged students.

On Wednesday, May 22nd, students, families and educators from across the state will convene on our state capitol to lobby members of the California State Legislature to pass several bills that will result in more equitable education for all publicly educated California students. While we would love for you to join us, we understand that it may not be possible. However, in less than 2 minutes, you can add your name to this petition to show California lawmakers that access to quality public education is an issue that unifies Californians from all walks of life.

As an Oakland Unified School District teacher who has been on strike I, and thousands of other California teachers, realize that our school districts are limited by the resources they receive from the state. Thus, we are demanding that the state of California makes public education funding a top priority. Our elected officials were elected by the people and must be held accountable to their constituents. Please let your voice be heard by taking a stand for California's young scholars. Help ensure California’s future by demanding that the state invest substantially more resources in its public schools.
