The World Health Organization calls childhood incest the "Silent Epidemic." But why is it silent?

It's silent because, “The taboo against talking about childhood incest is more powerful than the taboo against committing childhood incest.” (SIA)

The World Health Organization says the silent epidemic affects one of every four human beings on earth.

One person out of every four has been sexually abused in childhood. That's epidemic.

Ninety percent of all childhood sexual abuse is incest: sexual assault against a child committed by family members and people in positions of authority over the child.

What good will it do to talk about it?

When we talk about childhood incest, we raise the veil on this too common crime that's being committed right in our neighborhoods.

When we talk about it, we may learn that we know a lot of people who are survivors of childhood incest, but they never told us before.

We free them to talk about it, too.

When we talk about it, we learn to recognize when a child may be in an abusive situation, and learn how best to help them.

And when we talk about it, we help dissolve the shame that survivors feel. It wasn't their crime. It isn't their shame.

Please sign the petition to support talking about childhood incest.

If we can save even one child, it's a worthy conversation.
