Fix the Radical Bay Road on Magnetic Island
Fix the Radical Bay Road on Magnetic Island
Why this petition matters
To: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of electors of the Division of Townsville draws to the attention of the House to the impassable state of the road to Arthur, Florence and Radical bays on Magnetic Island since the monsoon event. This means that access to the prime beaches of the island is limited to those fit enough to walk, or rich enough to own a boat, at the start of our prime tourist season.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to apply Disaster Relief Funding to the repair of the road which is on State land although under lease to the owners of the freehold land at Radical Bay. However, there is a precedent for this, as in 1998 after the infamous “Night of Noah” washed out the road, the then State Government repaired the road under this funding as far as Arthur Bay. We therefore request that the same be done again, but this time as far as Florence Bay, leaving the Florence to Radical section the responsibility of the owners of Radical Bay.
