Why this petition matters

On 6 July 2018 a West Mercia Police dog named Ivy died from heatstroke after being left unattended in a patrol car for two hours. The temperature outside was 30C. An independent investigation by Staffordshire Police into the circumstances surrounding the death of PD Ivy determined that her death was preventable and due to a catalogue of negligence on the part of West Mercia Police officers.

The RSPCA decided not to prosecute anyone and left it to WMP to deal with it internally. Then, in October 2018 Chief Constable Anthony Bangham announced that no one was to face disciplinary action in connection with her death.

Police officers are not above the law. An ordinary member of the public would have been prosecuted so why not those responsible for Ivy's death?
