Samantha Katie James was crowned Miss Universe Malaysia title in 2017. Yet she has failed to uphold her title as she prides on her own racist remarks and ignorance on her Instagram stories.

On 1 June 2020, Samantha shared her thoughts regarding the murder of George Floyd and the riots currently in America onto her Instagram story.(@samanthakayty) In her own words, she wrote: 

"To the black people,

relax, take it as a challenge, makes you stronger.

You chose to be born as a 'colored' person in America for a reason. To learn a certain lesson.

Accept is as it is, till now hunger and poverty still exists. It is what it is. It's inevitable. Best you can do is remain calm, protect heart, don't allow it to crumble.

 That's your responsibility."

Many of her followers are enraged by her tone-deaf comments on the issue. In response to the backlash she got from that Instagram story post, she posts:

"I don't understand why Malaysians are so super bothered by it �

bro, we all ok only, until now, we doing just fine. Stop watching Netflix pls."

She is a public figure with over 160k followers on Instagram. She misused her platform and social media presence to voice out her blatantly racist and ignorant remarks. Her ignorance and lack of self and privilege awareness do not reflect the Miss Universe Malaysia title and with this petition, we hope she will be stripped of her title. For someone who is so blatantly ignorant should not represent Malaysia in any capacity.
