Why this petition matters

Started by Laura Sweet

"In a news release Monday, ICE said that students who fall under certain visas "may not take a full online course load and remain in the United States," adding, "The U.S. Department of State will not issue visas to students enrolled in schools and/or programs that are fully online for the fall semester nor will U.S. Customs and Border Protection permit these students to enter the United States."

If international students are only enrolled in online classes they are at risk for deportation. Old Dominion has always pushed for acceptance and diversity on its campus. As an alumni I would be extremely disappointed to not see Old Dominions staff and President Broderick put in their best efforts to keep our international students right at ODU. Forcing these students to travel back to their home countries increases the risk for a second wave and increases the students risk for contracting COVID. We must think of our fellow monarchs and push for change! They deserve our help and need it now more than ever.

*This idea was used from @bsoatVCU, the Bangladeshi student Association at Virginia Commonwealth University.*
