Please sign this petition if you are in favor of dismantling organizational gender bias and structural racism in healthcare. 

Research shows that women physicians and scientists experience gender bias and discrimination—this is true for women in general and even more so for women with intersectional identities (e.g., racial/ethnic minorities, LGBTQIA+).

We need to support women in medicine now. They have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to provide patient care, teach students and trainees, and conduct research to find a vaccine for COVID-19 and cure many other illnesses such as cancer and heart disease.

Medical societies and journals influence how women physicians and scientists in academic medicine are promoted and paid. As part of the Her Time Is Now Campaign, leaders in academic medicine such as deans, chairs, chancellors, and C-suite executives, are pledging to channel their financial and other resources to medical societies that equitably support women in medicine. Leaders who have made this commitment hail from many medical schools such as Harvard Medical School, Chicago Medical School, Yale School of Medicine, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, University of Massachusetts Medical School, University of California at Davis, University of California at Los Angeles, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

Medicine, especially academic medicine, should lead the way in treating people fairly. After all, this is the environment in which physicians and many other healthcare professionals are trained, and the place where many patients receive care including new cutting-edge therapies in clinical trials.
