Why this petition matters

Started by Adam Chambers

What does it mean to be a veteran. There are so many ways one can say they are a veteran.

First, a veteran who fought valiantly for their country in the Armed Forces. Bruce was a Vietnam War Veteran and he used his experiences; the good, the bad and the tragic to shape generations that would follow after him.He used his experiences learned from fighting in the Vietnam war to start a class that would educate and shape hundreds of student to the harsh realities if war and its lasting effects on every human being, while always honoring and respecting that great generation of Hero’s among us.

Second, Bruce was a veteran educator in the Hillsborough County school system for more than 30 years. His standards were tough, but achievable for those with a passion for learning. Even those who felt downtrodden, Bruce would lift them up and always found the best in every student he came across.

Finally Bruce was a veteran of sports. He served as the “Voice of the Hawks” for over 20 years. He made all that attended his game feel a part of the festivities with his charismatic  and infectious personality,  His mid-game trivia made many a people famous in Armwood if they got the right answer. He was commonly referred to as the “voice of the Hawks” and the “Mayor of Seffner.” In fact, to this day, Bruce has a special jersey enshrined at the Beef-O-Bradys in Seffner in his Honor. This petition is created to show support for naming the press box at Lyle Flagg Field located at Armwood High School specifically in his honor. This would be a lasting legacy to a man who gave so much and expected nothing in return. Please join with us in signing this petition which will be presented at the next school board meeting as a show from the community in support of this effort to honor the man, husband, father, mayor, veteran, and to all who knew him, “Friend.”
