Why this petition matters

Started by Jasmine Zivari

Ravenswood Village is a unique rural residential community, based in Berkshire for people with severe learning disabilities, complex needs and autism.

Ravenswood was specifically designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities at the forefront. It is spacious, peaceful and fully accessible for the residents who have the freedom to walk around safely as they wish, enabling personal independence. It is set in a beautiful green environment close to nature and the surrounding local communities. There are specialist complimentary services onsite, including a hydrotherapy pool, RDA registered stables with horses, sensory gardens, rebound therapy and a vibrant café at the heart of the village.

The 12 homes at Ravenswood each cater to people of different needs/disabilities. The Tager Centre, for example, rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC is designed specifically for people with autism.  These specialisms mean that the residents’ individual needs are met whilst also creating a diverse, vibrant community that lives together as one village.

In April 2021, Norwood, the charity which runs Ravenswood Village, announced a consultation period to discuss the future of Ravenswood, with the possibility of closure.

The 96 residents living there today are thriving and wish to continue to live in Ravenswood, which for many has been their home for the majority of their lives. They are living fulfilling, vibrant lives in a place where they feel happy, loved and safe. Many are extremely vulnerable, and it is their wish and indeed in their best interest to be at Ravenswood. A decision to remove them from their home and their community would have a catastrophic impact on their physical and mental wellbeing.

The Norwood Board of Trustees will be making their decision on the future of Ravenswood, in May 2022 (delayed from Autumn 2021). We urge the Norwood Board of Trustees to keep Ravenswood Village open.

Please show your support for the community of Ravenswood Village to keep their home by signing and sharing this petition - these are vulnerable people who deserve to continue to live where they feel happy, loved and safe.
