There are thousands of acres of land on the island of Molokai that is being unjustly sold and developed. 1,000+ of these acres are in Mapulehu Valley where over 28 signatures to the land holdings “dissapeared.” Molokai Land Trust is now attempting to purchase the land for agricultural and conservational use, while claiming that they will “try their best” to allow people with titles to “connect” with their land. Molokai Land Trust is also attempting to buy Molokai Ranch, which I believe should be a priority. Mapulehu is also one of Molokai’s most important archaeological sites, home to wonders like ‘Ili’ili’opae Heiau, one of Hawai’i’s largest, and Ke Ana o Hina, where Hawaiians gave offerings to Hina and would bury our piko. Native Hawaiians related to kuleana land title holders or have titles themselves have been denied access to the valley many times (especially to the Wailau Trail.) The abusing of Hawaiian land is nothing new, this is just to bring attention to Hawai’i’s Congress of our issue.
