Reject the destruction of a Brazilian forest to make way for a motor racing track
Why this petition matters
Formula One Group wants to continue holding a F1 Grand Prix in Brazil, but doesn't want to use the traditional track at Interlagos, Sao Paulo. Instead, they've agreed to use a track that hasn't even been built yet, and its construction requires the destruction of the 300 acre Camboata Forest. This forest is home to a wide variety of trees, birds, mammals, amphibians and fish, and is a peaceful place that can be enjoyed by the people of the nearby town, Deodoro.
Formula One has, for a long time, tried to take steps to become more environmentally friendly, particularly with the move to hybrid engines. The destruction of forest to build a motor racing track flies in the face of all those other messages, and damages any claims to environmental sensitivity.
The construction project has support from Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a man with a terrible record on the environment and climate change. And developers only build these projects if they believe there's a commercial return.
Formula One Group - don't be part of this. Please withdraw from this appalling agreement. Show the world (and your families and friends) that your environmental commitment is real.
