Keep the Essex-Charlotte Ferry running in 2021
Keep the Essex-Charlotte Ferry running in 2021
Why this petition matters
On December 13, 2020 the Lake Champlain Transportation Company texted out the following announcement to the greater New York/Vermont region:
"Effective January 4, 2021 the Charlotte, VT - Essex, NY crossing will suspend service until further notice. The Grand Isle, VT - Plattsburgh, NY crossing will remain open 24-7. Visit www.ferries.com for more information."
The closing of this second crossing on Lake Champlain is a devastating turn of events for those who rely on its service for professional, educational, medical and other related needs. This crossing serves a great many people for a great many reasons. Closing it requires those individuals (some who are elderly, some who are health compromised) to seek alternate routes or change their plans completely, which could be life or death decisions that they are making.
Economic viability for Essex County and the Adirondacks may see immediate negative impacts as those permitted to participate in interstate travel and commerce will be potentially unable to sustain their business.
Please take a moment to sign this petition. It is imperative that we band together in a grassroots effort to tell Mr. Pecor and the Lake Champlain Transportation Company that their decision to close the southern ferry crossing has deep and long lasting effects to their loyal customers.
