Why this petition matters

Started by PUBLIUS UK

UK banks benefit from tax payer support and have a fiduciary duty to support UK entrepreneurs. Opening bank accounts for new businesses should not be optional for UK banks.

If banks refuse to open a bank account for a new UK business they should explain clearly why not.

I have applied to several banks and been rejected without a clear explanation. Banks want to benefit from taxpayer largesse in extremis but open bank accounts at their discretion, which does not seem equitable.

There appears to be a gap in the FCA's Conduct of Business Standards for UK banks https://www.handbook.fca.org.uk/handbook/BCOBS.pdf
