Desde el grupo Montevideo Horse Save que forma parte de la red global Save Movement para la defensa de derechos animales , hacemos pública esta petición con la finalidad de exigir a la Dirección General de Servicios Ganaderos del Ministerio de Ganadería , Agricultura y Pesca , al actual Ministro Enzo Benech y al electo recientemente Ministro Carlos María Uriarte : el cierre definitivo de los mataderos de caballos en Uruguay.

 Según el Decreto N° 169/010 "Uruguay es país productor de carne equina para consumo humano, con destino exclusivo a exportación " aunque huesos, "achuras" y cola son vendidos en el mercado interno con diferentes fines.

  En abril de 2015 , la operación "Tornado", llevada a cabo por la Bepra (Brigada de Prevención contra el Abigeato ), dejó en evidencia que tres productores, en los últimos tres años, habían ingresado ilegalmente a territorio nacional más de dos mil equinos. La investigación logró establecer que dichos productores vendieron aproximadamente 1.930 caballos de contrabando a distintos frigoríficos del sur del país.

" Entre los investigadores existe la convicción de que se trata "de la punta del iceberg" y que debajo, hay mucho todavía por aclarar. Tal convicción obedece a las particulares características de la frontera seca que separa Uruguay de Brasil, entre Masoller y San Luis; son más de 200 kilómetros en los que se puede cruzar de un territorio a otro sin mayores dificultades."  Mientras que en los países europeos piensan que estos animales provienen de campos de pastoreo , las investigaciones llevadas a cabo demuestran  que provienen mayormente de remates en la frontera con brasil y de animales lesionados de las diferentes actividades donde son utilizados.

 La operación Tornado fue archivada y nada más se habló respecto a este tema por parte de las autoridades , ¿ por qué ?  Lejos de tomar cartas en el asunto , recientemente se firmaron acuerdos con China para la exportación de carne de caballos , por lo cual los frigoríficos se encuentran realizando enormes reformas edilicias preparándose para cumplir con la demanda del nuevo mercado.

 Además de todo esto , los caballos son transportados durante horas en camiones apretados y sin beber agua , muchos llegan lastimados e incluso mueren antes de llegar al destino .

 ¿Crees que los animales merecen pasar por esto?

 Luchemos por el cierre definitivo de los mataderos de caballos en Uruguay . Frigorífico Clay ( Canelones ) , Frigorífico Sarel (Canelones) y Agro Industrial del Este ( Treinta y Tres ) , que en paralelo haya una reconversión laboral para sus trabajadores.

From the Montevideo Horse Save group that is part of the global Save Movement network for the defense of animal rights, we make this request public in order to demand from the General Directorate of Livestock Services of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, the current Minister Enzo Benech and the recently elected Minister Carlos María Uriarte: the definitive closure of horse slaughterhouses in Uruguay.

 According to Decree No. 169/010 "Uruguay is a country that produces equine meat for human consumption, with an exclusive export destination" although bones, "achuras" and cola are sold in the domestic market for different purposes.

In April 2015, the operation "Tornado", carried out by Bepra (Brigade of Prevention against Abigence), showed that three producers, in the last three years, had illegally entered more than two thousand equine national territory . The investigation was able to establish that these producers sold approximately 1,930 smuggled horses to different refrigerators in the south of the country. "Among the researchers there is a conviction that it is" the tip of the iceberg "and that underneath, there is still a lot to clarify. Such conviction is due to the particular characteristics of the dry border that separates Uruguay from Brazil, between Masoller and San Luis ; there are more than 200 kilometers where you can cross from one territory to another without major difficulties. The Tornado operation was filed and nothing else was discussed about this issue by the authorities, why? Far from taking action on the matter, agreements were recently signed with China for the export of horse meat, which is why refrigerators are carrying out huge building reforms preparing to meet the demand of the new market. In addition to all this, horses are transported for hours in tight trucks and without drinking water, many arrive injured and even die before arriving at the destination.
