Why is the state of affairs in our society so deplorable, why is the governance in this country so slanted toward the rulers and infuriatingly unfair to the citizens?  Why is corruption so rampant in our society and in our government?

Here's the very obvious answer AND the obvious solution:

India has made massive strides in science and technology. India holds a fairly big name in the fields of corporate business, industry, enterprises, even in space science, and, of course, in many other fields. WHY? Because of the people behind these enterprises. They are all well-educated, smart, honest, committed to their jobs, have personal integrity, have foresight and ambitions and so on and so forth. The question is why is our government so slack, inefficient, unimaginably corrupt, self-serving, and filled with frauds and scams? Reason is obvious isn’t it?

Because majority of them are school dropouts, or barely educated. A well-qualified politician or even a college graduate is an exception rather than the rule. And we have entrusted the rule of this country and its vast resources to such people. We call them out ‘leaders!’. A corporate or an industry will not touch these people with a barge pole. But we have elected and employed these men and women en masse as trustees of our hard-earned money and the nation’s exchequer. 

What blunder. And then we gripe about corruption, self-serving policies, lopsided public schemes that pour public money down the drain, horribly poor public facilities and infrastructure and so on. Fraudulently amassing public wealth that is diverted from its intended purpose of uplifting the quality of life of the masses and toward nation-building - and consequently depriving the citizens of their rightful rewards for paying massive amounts of taxes - is tantamount to human rights violation. 

So, what’s the solution? Just as a business executive, a corporate CEO  or any other professional holds an MBA or other relevant degrees, an engineer holds as engineering degree, a doctor holds at least a MBBS, a bank manager holds an economics degree and so on, a politician must also hold proper qualification. Additionally, his job must also have a retirement age.

I feel universities must start a degree in Indian Politics covering political science, public administration, efficiently managing public funds, local administration and other relevant subjects of at least three years duration and EVERY political aspirant in this country must hold such a degree to enter the field. Selection must be stringent to keep away unsuitable candidates. And once entered nobody, but nobody in politics must be above law. They must prove their honesty and personal integrity by showing positive results. An assessment system must be in place and strictly implemented so slackers can be eliminated. All wrong-doers must be severely punished and barred from politics permanently.

Question is, will the government put a bell on its own neck? If we the ruled want to enforce it, the rulers must ultimately make it a law.

I'm a writer and book author. I've found that writing newspaper editorials and features in newspapers and magazines have only limited viewership, and therefore, impact. I suppose a campaign on this platform will reach more and create the necessary impact in pubic minds to bring about a much needed and long overdue change. I fervently hope all right-thinking citizens of this country will give it a serious thought and do what he or she can to push this forward...till, ultimately, we might see the desired results, that is, bring about a fundamental change in Indian politics and public governance where honesty and integrity and conscientious governance replaces scams and corruption.
