Many people in Florida and around the country have serious concerns about Walt Disney World reopening and the obvious greatly increased virus transmission this will cause. This reopening creates a terrible risk to both the cast members who work there and guests at the resort.

The Disney World Resort has announced they intend to begin reopening the parks on July 11. Covid-19 cases are continuing to rise and have not dropped. Florida is already now hitting record numbers of covid cases almost daily. In many areas of the country hospitalizations and ICU admittance are spiking as well. Many people have lost loved ones due to this pandemic and by reopening the parks they are endangering the health and lives of cast members and guests by being highly exposed to Covid-19. There are many more cases now than when the parks closed on March 15th, 2020 and Health Officials have stated that the 2nd wave of Covid-19 will be worse. Therefore reopening before the 2nd wave even hits is both irresponsible and dangerous. Many are excited for the reopening of the parks, but not during a pandemic where people are DYING, now is simply not the time.

On March 27th, 2020 Disney Parks released a statement, “the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains The Walt Disney Company’s top priority.” The Disney Company needs to prove they stand behind this statement and reschedule Disney World to reopen the parks at a later date when cases of Covid-19 drop and the virus is much more under control.
