Why this petition matters

Started by Lala Palelei

Today there are 400 Samoan Citizens who are crewmen who are stranded on 17 ships by the Mediterranean Shipping company. These men are Citizens and Natives of the Government of Samoa.

Today, the Government of Samoa, is refusing to allow them to be repatriated back to the country where they can be with family. The Government of Samoa has received financial assistance from The World Bank in the amount of $5.1 Million to deal with Covid-19 (coronavirus) and the displacement, containment, response for its citizens to deal with this crisis.

The Crewmen are being denied pay, contrary to the recommendations of The International Labor Organization of The United Nations. It has been 2 to 3 months since these hard working crewmen have been paid. They are eating whatever food remains, and their situation is dire.

Please sign the below petition to raise awareness of their plight, to restore their dignity, and get them home to their families with pay and all the rights and privileges afforded to any human beings.

This I ask humbly, on behalf of Gods People, and of the Citizens of the Great Nation of Samoa
