Namaste friends

As a Sindhi, I raise some very distressing news on native minority Hindus facing genocide in Sindh in Pakistan, and I want you to PLEASE HELP me to raise this as a priority issue to all human rights organisations and the United Nations to take immediate action to stop these horrible crimes – so that this persecuted community who are native to the Indus Valley can live with dignity and continue their peaceful culture. Please sign up and speak up for our community that is risk of genocide at an alarming rate and require our help and protection!

It is widely reported that approximately 1,000 minority Sindhi Hindu girls being kidnapped each year and forced to convert to Islamic kidnappers, Hindu temples being damaged, blasphemy laws being improperly used to target Hindus (who are native to Sindh pre-islamic invasions) and so much hardship.

Can you ever imagine the utter desperation and depressing stories of how a poor minor girl is kidnapped, forced to marry and convert to islam, but when she returns to her family and continues to practice her faith the court declares her an apostate and for this there is potentially a death penalty?! Is this humanity? Is this female abuse? Is it child abuse? Is it cultural genocide? It is really sad and to date human rights organisations have turned a blind eye.

At 1947, there were 428 historical Hindu temples but now only 20 temples remain in Sindh. As per reports, 95% of all temples in Pakistan have been converted to mosques or islamic schools. Of the temples that remain these face vandalisation on an alarming rate. In 1947, the population of Sindhi Hindus was 12.14% and now that percentage has alarmingly dropped to 1.85%.

After the partition of India in 1947, many Sindhi Hindu were forced to emigrate to India and other parts of the world. The many that chose remain in their ancestral homeland face misery and genocide. It is a depressing state of affairs. Particularly as the formation of Pakistan guaranteed minority rights. Yet the legislation to outlaw forced conversion was shelved by the Sindh legislative assembly in 2015 after protests from conservative Muslim groups.

Sindhi Hindus are native descendants of the ancient Indus civilization that flourished between 2600 and 1900 BCE. “Hindus” (i.e. practitioners of the Sanatana Dharma - Shaivites, Shaktas, Vaishnavites, Yogis and Yoginis, etc.) were the native residents of the Indus Valley (and present day Pakistan – and the rest of the greater subcontinent), who practiced a variety of faith traditions and philosophies, which were later categorised collectively as “Hinduism” by foreigners. Sindhi Hindus are peaceful, with most practicing vegetarianism and not enforcing their religion or culture on others. The name Sindh itself is derived from the sanskrit name of the mighty Indus river that flows through it.

It appears the Pakistani government does not want this issue to be highlighted because it exposes their own brutality but also the fact that the country has a rich Hindu history which it does not want to promote. Perhaps this is why they turn a blind eye and allow this genocide to continue.

However, it needs to be raised and Sindhi Hindus need to live in dignity and for the sake of their humanity.

I appeal to you to raise a voice for this matter. Please sign this petition to speak up for those that cannot!

Thank you and Namaste
