Wanda Jackson should be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame
Why this petition matters
Wanda Jackson is popularly known as the First Lady of Rock’n’Roll and the queen of rockabilly.... but what some may not know (but will not be surprised to learn) is that Wanda Jackson is also the first sex symbol of country music (named by CMT).
In 1956, Wanda released her first single on Capitol records called “I Gotta Know.” That single reached Top 20 on the Country charts. In 1961, Wanda released two singles “Right or Wrong” and “In the Middle of a Heartache”... both of which were top ten hits on the Billboard country charts.
Wanda released several other singles in the coming years that made the country top 40 charts..... all of these songs were considered “assertive“ in a time when other women were releasing songs like “how much is that doggy in the window.” These songs included "The Box It Came In" (1966), "Tears Will Be the Chaser for Your Wine" (1966), "A Girl Don't Have to Drink to Have Fun" (1967), "My Baby Walked Right Out on Me" (1968), and "My Big Iron Skillet" (1969).
The fact of the matter is that Wanda Jackson has had more country-charting hits than in any other genre she is associated with. She deserves to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame! She is the first sex symbol of country music..... the CMHOF could use a little sex appeal, don’t ya think?
