Save the manatees from being evicted
Save the manatees from being evicted
Why this petition matters
We are lucky to see wild manatees in Miami. As the water gets colder, more and more manatees come to a small park on Brickell.
The city of Miami has approved construction of a floating dock on the same spot manatees live during the winter. The City's argument is they want to bring more people access to the water and although this sounds very nice, coincidentally there is a multimillion dollar project next to the park that would appreciate that dock, and is actually advertising spots for sale in their marina. The permit approved by the city says they can sell the "floating dock" at any point.
We have tried reaching out to the city, and Commissioner Ken Russell said he would stop the construction for now, that was the beginning of November (4 days before the election) and by the second week of November a first attempt at construction happened. Luckily, 2 residents started filming the workers and they stopped the work once they realized they were being filmed. The manatees were there while these people were about to start building.
Please help me bring awareness to what is going on. We are lucky enough to share our space with wild animals, let's do our part in keeping them safe.
