Why this petition matters

Started by Reform English Futsal

Futsal, the international small-sided version of football, is the fastest-growing indoor sport worldwide. It is governed in England by the Football Association and is played by over 17,000 FA-affiliated players.

The FA has delegated organisation and governance of futsal to a subcommittee, the "Futsal Committee", with committee members who are unelected by the futsal clubs and other stakeholders they are supposed to represent. Over the past two years this committee has:

  1. Split the English futsal community from top to bottom by imposing an alternative league structure with neither proper consultation nor community consent;
  2. Failed to prevent the FA from axing the men's international futsal team just weeks before their next match (for which the FA was punished with a UEFA fine);
  3. Failed to prevent the FA from cutting the annual budget for futsal by almost 90%; and
  4. Failed to communicate with futsal clubs and players, including refusing to release any meeting minutes or allow members of the futsal community to attend meetings.

We demand that The FA reforms its governance of futsal by:

  1. Removing the current unelected and unrepresentative Futsal Committee members;
  2. Reforming futsal governance by setting up a new body elected by and under the democratic control of futsal stakeholders, including futsal clubs and players;
  3. Developing transparent communication channels between this new body and the futsal stakeholders it represents; and
  4. Providing operational and financial independence for this body so that futsal is recognised as a game in its own right and not merely an appendage of "football".
