Why this petition matters

Started by Kyle Creaton

If you live in Forest Hill, Dulwich, Sydenham or anywhere around those areas you will without doubt have heard of The Grove pub. It’s been out of use for many years now as well as the car park attached to it which got to a unswept, over grown tree infested area of nothing.
Until some bright people saw an opportunity to make it into something useful. A skatepark. All DIY - do it yourself.
It’s been out of use for years and as soon as people have shown a genuine interest with the spot, we are being told it’s due to be knocked down, you can’t have it anymore. Demolished. If it was up to me I’d say stop acting like a child who wants to now play with a toy that someone else picked up while it was left on the floor in your possession. It doesn’t seem fair to pick and chose when you want to care and not.
It’s a place for everyone of any age to come and have a laugh, learn something useful like how to mix cement and build structures and design something that came from their mind, have a skate, make friends, learn social skills and even talk about your feelings if you’ve had a bad day and don’t know how to talk about it. Especially the younger generation.
There’s an abundance of wild blackberry trees which have been used to fuel some young minds to even make their own homemade jam! The possibilities are endless.
A few boys down at @se15sk8 made their own full feature video of the spot showcasing their genius of what you can do when you put time and effort into something that isn’t just a hobby or a past time, it’s your life.
We love the spot, we care about it and we respect it. We clear away kickers and rails to not make it look messy and we clean up our rubbish and we need to your help to keep it alive for generations of skaters and anyone alike to come. SO SAVE THE GROVE DIY!
