RE SALE OF 69 MCLACHLAN STREET APOLLO BAY (the old Preschool)

We, the people with connection to the Great Ocean Road (GOR) and its hinterland within the boundaries of Colac Otway Shire, request Council NOT SELL 69 Mc Lachlan Street, Apollo Bay, for the following reasons:
 
* The proposed sale does not give priority to achieving the best outcomes for the local community and its future generations.

* By Council’s own admission, it is the only vacant and suitably zoned land that it owns along the GOR that could be used for social or key worker affordable housing in response to its declared housing crisis.

* History demonstrates the genuine stake the Apollo Bay community has in the property and the building, having purchased the land in the 1950’s, secured Government funding, gifted it to the Council and raised further funds to complete the build and equip it as a Preschool & Infant Welfare Centre for the next 60+ years.

Immediate action is required as the Council has voted to sell but a rescission motion will prevent its sale until the next Council meeting. This petition must be submitted by 17 September.
