Why this petition matters

Started by Max Hovey

Why has it become normalised on queer dating apps to send a photo of their genitalia before saying hello? Something seems backwards. I am tired of continuously blocking people for being sent unsolicited nudes. It is literally a criminal offence, and the only thing Grindr has done to prevent this is allowed us to state whether or not we want to receive NSFW (Not safe for work) pics. Like anyone listens.

Regardless of whether or not it is an adults only app should NOT mean strangers can flash me online. There should be some form of filter in place to stop these being sent without permission, or at least allow us to accept / decline the images before being confronted with them.

We also have to consider the impact this has on younger queer people. This is likely to be their first exposure to other queer people, and it may traumatise them or encourage them to do the same. Explicit images are a personal preferences, but should never be sent or received without prior consent.

Please sign the petition so we can take this to the app, and make it a little bit safer for us all.
