Why this petition matters

Started by Sandie Reed

Heathpark Wood in Windlesham is under threat from 4 separate developments with 150 homes planned. Thousands of mature trees will be destroyed for land the council have described as unsuitable for housing and a development that Michael Gove described as utter madness. 8 hectares - the equivalent of 15 football pitches is under immediate threat. But it's unlikely to stop there. Once developers have started they will continue until the entire 32ha is gone.

Yes the UK needs more houses but removing this woodland is unethical. It is being driven by profit with no thought to the environment, the destruction of the habitat for countless wildlife, or that by removing the natural barrier between the village and the M3, will expose residents to increased pollution.

An environmental assessment was not carried out on this woodland.

The borough council is dancing to the tune of the developers and is not following legal planning requirements or their own policies. They are in the hands of the developers.

Please help us to save Heathpark Wood by signing this petition.

Thank you
