Why this petition matters

Started by Michael Keamy

Mayor Wu, Boston City Council, Boston Parks Department.

The Dorchester Avenue Vision Committee is dedicated to making Dorchester Avenue in the Columbia /Savin Hill neighborhood (from Columbia Road to Freeport Street) a more attractive, walkable, safe and vital place for all businesses and residents.

We believe trees and green areas improve the quality of life, image and health of a neighborhood. Currently, trees are scarce or nonexisitent along many blocks of our Avenue. Only three trees have been planted in our section of Dorchester Avenue since 2015. We believe our Main Street has been overlooked for years and maintain it is time to bring our Dorchester Avenue into a brighter, greener future.

We propose the planting of approximately 30 new trees, replanting empty tree pits, the construction of rain gardens at appropriate street corners, and construction of planters in front of existing businesses (eg. Boys and Girls Club).

We are reaching out to Civic Associations, neighborhood groups and all residents of our neighborhood to voice their support for our greening initiative. We ask Mayor Wu, The Boston City Council and The Parks Department to make our plans a reality.
