Make DP Review a Public Domain Archive
Make DP Review a Public Domain Archive
Why this petition matters
In announcing that come April 11th, 2023, the DPReview.com “site will be locked, with no further updates made," Amazon has brought into question the future of the 25 years worth of information it owns and hosts.
There is a sizable population of passionate and curious people with an interest in photography who rely on the website DPReview.com for historical camera-related reviews, discussions and tools such as Camera Feature Search and Studio Shot Comparison. To lose this resource would be to eliminate a rich aggregation of 25 years of information that is not in existence anywhere else on the World Wide Web.
I call on Amazon to commit to the continued hosting of DPReview.com and its Youtube contents as an indefinite archive of photographic information for the greater good of the global population.
Alternatively I call on Amazon to donate the full contents of DPReview.com, as well as the contents of its Youtube Channel, to the public domain as a historical archive of photographic knowledge, and transfer the sites full architecture and content, including its Youtube content, to a party willing and able to host it in the public's name and interest, such as the Library of Congress or the Internet Archive https://archive.org
