We Need Your Support!
Background
Proper Sound faces an unfavorable planning decision from Cheshire East Council that threatens its operation as a café/bar. This decision impacts our community's vibrancy and economy.
Key Points of Our Petition
Community Support Proper Sound has significant backing from local residents and businesses, emphasizing its role in enhancing Macclesfield’s social and economic life.
Strategic Location Located in the town center amidst similar venues, Proper Sound is ideally situated to complement the area’s evening economy, contrary to claims about noise disturbances.
Economic and Cultural Contribution
- Proper Sound attracts local and international visitors, boosting Macclesfield’s economy.
- The council's request to remove a culturally significant mural from Proper Sound has been viewed as a step back for local creativity.
Need for Fair Review
- Investigation by Onward Homes confirmed minimal noise disturbances, contradicting the council’s noise concerns.
- No other council departments have objected to the planning application.
- The decision-making process lacked transparency and community involvement, suggesting the need for this case to be reviewed by a committee for a balanced perspective.
Action Requested
We urge Cheshire East Council to reconsider the planning decision. We request a committee review that takes into account community support, economic benefits, and the findings of the Onward Homes investigation.
In addition planning have recently initiated enforcement action demanding the removal of the iconic mural at Proper Sound, This mural, which celebrates Ian Curtis and has become a cultural landmark, draws tourists from around the world and stands as the first of its kind in Macclesfield to honor the legendary musician. Despite its popularity and the value it adds to the local community by enhancing cultural tourism and local pride, the council's decision has sparked widespread concern and debate among residents and visitors alike. This move by the council not only impacts the aesthetic and cultural fabric of our town but also raises questions about the preservation of artistic expressions that honor our local heritage.
