- The mandatory addition of fluoridation chemicals to the water supply in West Cumbria is against all the principles of Democracy AND Pharmacology .
- Please, please take the time to read this rather long, but necessary , account of this outrageous situation.
- United Utilities letters have dropped onto the doormats of 80,000 homes in West Cumbria without warning about fluoride(Hexafluorosilicic acid) content which is known to cause dental fluorosis, has association with ADHD & Autism, damage to the thyroid and endocrine system with twice as many underactive thyroids in fluoridated areas when compared with non-fluoridated areas and recent science showing DAMAGE TO THE BRAIN(lowering IQ) of the unborn and newly born child with no warning that baby formula should NOT be made using fluoridated water.
- Naively, Cumbria County Council(CCC) believe there will be no cost financially , there are huge associated health costs, to the Council with regard to the installation of fluoridation plant and machinery at Williamsgate water treatment works (WTW) when the government expressly reserves the right to re-charge, clawback, these costs from the council and the term they use currently is "future proofing". Yes we will pay every which way !! This useless, wasteful, outrageous practice will deprive the NHS and our Cumbrian Smile4Life ORAL health programme of much needed funds.
- To their credit Allerdale and Copeland Councils resolved , in the early 2000's, to be against this outdated, dangerous practice and still are but have not acted in over 20 years to enforce this and as a result CCC have decided at Cabinet on the 27th. January 2022, and rubber stamped at full council on the 10th. February 2022, that the population of West Cumbria, 167,000 people approx. , should NOT be consulted as to whether they want this industrial waste product added to our wonderful Lakeland DRINKING water to treat tooth decay, not to treat the water to make it potable, by swallowing an uncontrolled dose as we don't all drink the same amount each day do we?
- CCC claim that this is not a medicine in the water supply and Fluoride Free Cumbria challenged this with our own Barrister opinion which takes the opposite view and I invite readers to check out the dictionary as a starting point as I have done.
- It is a basic human right that a person should be allowed to choose a medical treatment, to make an informed decision on an individual basis in consultation with their DOCTOR and not have it imposed by any Council.
- Since the scheme started in 1969/71 there has never been a full public consultation only a survey in the Allerdale outlook some years ago in which 83% of respondents said they did not want to be fluoridated and this helped form the Allerdale and Copeland decisions. In the early 2000's Buttermere villagers fought long and hard to prevent their supply from being fluoridated. They won, but we have discovered that since 2018 they have been receiving a fluoridated supply from Ennerdale !! Fluoridation via the back door without consultation and without the informed consent of the recipients.
- What will visitors to this pristine environment and World Heritage Site think about pure Lakeland water being deliberately contaminated with an industrial waste?
- Will Cumbria Tourism put health warnings on their advertisements? Most of our visitors will come from areas which are not fluoridated. Only 10% of ENGLAND has mandatory fluoridation ! NOT Scotland, Wales or N. Ireland. 97% of Europe has decided against on health and ethical grounds and 95% of the WORLD is NOT fluoridated.
- Putting a substance into the water supply to treat the whole population, irrespective of need and with no control of dose ,sets a very dangerous precedent and even though Boris Johnson is a signatory to an "early day motion" in the mid 2000's against fluoridation and commented on mandatory vaccination by saying "that's not the way we do things" would you "TRUST" this government not to add something even more sinister ? I doubt it!!
- The good people of Whitehaven in particular, who we support wholeheartedly, have suffered recently with very poor water quality due to the borehole mix and inept U. U. management who continue to spout the official line that the water meets the standards. This is easy to do if you are self reporting to DEFRA and the Drinking Water Inspectorate who do no testing of their own but rely on U.U. reporting, In turn United Utilities do not test the (H2SiF6) the product which they add to the water conforms to BS even though it contains many contaminants such as Arsenic which they are obliged by law to reduce as far as possible yet they add even more in the fluoridating acid along with other carcinogens. This is UNBELIEVABLE BUT TRUE .
- United Utilities say that they have carried out due diligence on the supplier and rely on the supplier testing and the supplier reports. SOUND FAMILIAR? Rather like turkeys voting for Christmas !!
- In our opinion public consultation is a minimum requirement on such an important issue as the quality, safety and potability of our most precious, life giving , and sustaining resource.
