Why this petition matters

Started by Aaryan Chowdhury

The safety of our students and community members in Plainsboro Township, NJ is of utmost importance. The CMS - HSN crosswalk has been a site of concern due to its poor lighting conditions and lack of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) lights. Due to a lack of lighting on many roads and intersections, collisions have been caused such as the recent death of a 12-year-old crossing Rabbit Hill Road that might have been prevented with better lighting. Nearly 3,000 students attend these two schools, and aggressive drivers are on the road at school arrival and dismissal times as well as following after-school activities. It is especially crucial to improve the lighting in this area.

Moreover, speeding on the roadway between the schools poses an additional risk to pedestrians using this crosswalk. According to data from the Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Improvement Program, enhanced crosswalk visibility significantly reduces pedestrian crashes.

We believe that by improving lighting conditions and installing RRFB lights at this crosswalk, we can prevent future tragedies and ensure safer passage for all who use it. We urge local authorities to prioritize these necessary improvements immediately. In addition, RRFB lights can be added as it is a proven safety measure, seen in the following: RRFB
We urge Plainsboro officials to prioritize these necessary improvements immediately.

Please sign this petition if you support better safety measures at the CMS - HSN crosswalk in Plainsboro Township.
