Why this petition matters
Pokémon GO released news about the upcoming changes to their remote raid feature that will take effect on April 6, 2023, at 11:00 AM PDT GMT-07.
Niantic Inc. and the developers of Pokémon GO have decided to drastically increase the price of remote raid passes and limit the number of remote raids that can be joined each day. This impacts the majority of Pokémon GO players who have enjoyed this aspect of the game since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic when we were all forced to be indoors and could no longer play this game how it was intended.
As 3 years have passed since these changes were implemented, the remote raid aspect of this game has grown immensely. Unfortunately, with this decision, Niantic has failed to consider how these changes will impact the community. They have not considered rural players or players who do not have a local community of people to raid with. They have not considered what this price increase and limitation means for trainers who do not have the privilege of being able to leave their house to play a game.
This includes disabled and differently-abled people, parents, immunocompromised individuals, and many more. This community has come together in the past to speak out against anti-accessibility issues, and we hope that with this petition, we can show Niantic that they need to revert these changes if they care about their community more than profit.
Changelogs
Pricing adjustments:
The price of the Remote Raid Pass three-pack will increase to 525 PokéCoins.
The price of single Remote Raid Passes will increase to 195 PokéCoins.
A Premium Battle Pass three-pack will be added to the shop for the price of 250 PokéCoins.
Remote Raid participation limits:
Trainers will be able to participate in a maximum of five Remote Raids per day.
This maximum may change and increase for special events.
Remote Raid Passes:
Remote Raid Passes will be included in the pool of potential rewards for Research Breakthroughs.
Remote Raid Passes earned via Research Breakthroughs will still be subject to the existing inventory limit of three Remote Raid Passes per Trainer.
If a Trainer earns a Remote Raid Pass from a Research Breakthrough while at the three Remote Raid Pass limit, they will receive a Premium Battle Pass instead.
Purchases of Remote Raid Pass 3-Packs will still allow you to hold up to 5 Remote Raid Passes if you purchase it with 2 Remote Passes already in your inventory.
