On 4th September Farnborough Airport (UK's largest private jet airport) started a consultation to:

• Increase the number of flights from 50,000 to 70,000 a year
• Double the number of weekend flights from 8,900 to 18,900
• Operate more of the heavier/restricted aircraft

If adopted, these changes will result in more noise and pollution for local residents. Private jets produce up to 40 times more CO2 than commercial flights (per passenger mile) and will drive global warming even further – for the benefit of a very small number of ultra-wealthy people. The Government’s own Climate Change Committee states there should be no expansion in aviation until the industry has started to reduce its emissions.

The airport is owned by Macquarie – the business that plundered Thames Water and now owns Southern Water. The airport is only licenced for “business” flights yet most flights are at weekends and to holiday destinations with on;y 2-3 passengers per plane.
