Why this petition matters

Mass shootings are on a terrifying incline. There were more school shootings in 2022 — 46 — than in any year since at least 1999. There have been 380 school shootings since Columbine. According to the Center for Homeland Defense and Security, students and teachers are more likely to be shot in the classroom than in any other area inside the school. Shootings that occurred inside the school building were three times more fatal than shootings that occurred outside the school building (source: United States Government Accountability Office Report).

In response to the tragic rise of school shootings and precipitated by the Uvalde school shooting in 2021, Kevin Thomas, CEO of KT Solutions, invented the Rapid Access Safe Room (RASR). The RASR is an emergency shelter or fold out-room that can be deployed in 10 seconds to provide NIJ Level III ballistics protection and block flying debris in a disaster/crisis scenario.

The need for these lifesaving rooms is great, but due to the cost of the ballistic material, each RASR costs approximately $55-$65,000 per room to manufacture and install. Schools need government assistance to protect classrooms and common areas inside schools.

The RASR is getting a lot of publicity; more than 5,000 schools have expressed interest in installing the RASR in their classrooms. We need help getting the government’s attention and assistance in protecting our nation’s children from active shooters and would like to start an e-petition to make it happen. Please sign this e-petition to request government support for the safety and protection of schools.

More information about the RASR wall system, along with a video, is available on our website at RASRwall.com.
