Why this petition matters

QUESNEL LAKE NEEDS YOUR VOICE

Tell the British Columbia Government to protect the once pristine Quesnel Lake, and not extend/or revoke Mount Polley Mines Corporation (Imperial Metals) temporary permit, to discharge 52,000 cubic meters per day of mine effluent, directly into one of the world's largest inland fjordial lakes and a major tributary of the Fraser River Watershed.

Mount Polley Mines Corporation (MPMC) was responsible for Canada's largest tailings spill in 2014 releasing 25 million cubic meters of toxic mine waste, sludge, trees and earth into Polley Lake, Hazeltine Creek and Quesnel Lake.

In the past 7 years the BC Government has allowed MPMC to use Quesnel Lake to dilute its mine waste. Now MPMC has applied to extend this discharge permit to 2025 and beyond.

"Dilution is not the solution".

See video of the discharge pipes on CCQL home page

We can not allow this to happen to Quesnel Lake.
