Why this petition matters

I, along with many others, have witnessed the struggle of legitimate sellers on Amazon who have been suspended due to issues related to unsuitable goods.

Amazon's current policy of suspending these sellers without proper dialogue is causing unnecessary hardship. Some of these sellers have been on Amazon for 10+ years and have never been suspended. Additionally, Amazon's policy of freezing ALL sellers funds and inventory is unfair, unnecessary, and devastating

CNBC reported that many sellers are suspended for reselling stolen goods on Amazon on deals they purchased. Sellers are held liable for this as they are responsible for checking their supplier’s stock, which means that tainted goods are the sellers’ responsibility. I agree that they should be held liable; even punitive punishment may sometimes be necessary. But I’m afraid that I have to disagree with how Amazon enforces these suspensions.

Let’s take for example a $25 million dollar-a-year Amazon Seller. Such a seller has a huge payroll, cost of goods, operations, accounting, insurance, rent, and multiple employees. To sell $25 million a year, you likely have a few buyers sourcing goods. Goods are sourced from wholesalers and liquidators. A legitimate seller can buy from an honest middleman and still end up with tainted goods every once in a while. And if the goods have been legit for the last ten years, buyers tend to do less due-diligence from those middlemen because the chances of ending up with tainted goods are minimal. Even Amazon and Walmart can once mistakenly source from a supplier sourcing tainted goods. These goods likely represent .00001% of the goods the seller has ever sold, and clearly, this is a reasonable mistake, and not a “scheme.”

We urge Amazon not just for reinstatement but also for a transparent dialogue process where both parties can discuss and resolve issues related to unsuitable goods effectively. Sign this petition if you stand with us in advocating for fair treatment of all legitimate Amazon sellers.
