Why this petition matters

Started by Eddie Mesa

As 4th and 5th generation local ranchers, we are deeply concerned about the proposed implementation of a National Monument status in our area. This move threatens to disrupt our way of life, which has been passed down through generations. The introduction of this status will gradually reduce cattle grazing - a vital part of our livelihoods and the local economy. Over time, it could lead to the government taking over our state and BLM land leases.

The impact on us is personal but extends beyond just us as individuals. It affects the entire community that relies on these lands for their livelihoods too. According to data from the U.S Department of Agriculture, there are nearly 700,000 full-time jobs in cattle production across America (USDA Economic Research Service). A significant change like this could potentially put many jobs at risk.

We understand that conservation is important; however, there must be a balance between preservation and sustainable use. We believe that it's possible to protect natural resources while still supporting local economies.

Therefore, we urge you not just for ourselves but also for all those who depend on these lands for their survival – sign this petition against implementing National Monument status in our area. Let's work together towards solutions that respect both nature and people's livelihoods.
