Ecologische & Sociale Duurzaamheidseisen voor Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (Scroll naar beneden voor de Nederlandse versie)

Sustainability is one of the main pillars of Strategy 2024 of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, which is also extended to all related organizations. This petition is aimed at all schools and all organizations that are related to the Erasmus University Rotterdam. These schools and institutions are:

• Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC),
• Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM),
• Erasmus University College (EUC),
• Erasmus School of Philosophy (ESPHIL),
• International Institute of Social Studies (ISS),
• Erasmus MC,
• Rotterdam School of Management (RSM),
• Erasmus Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Humanities (EGSH),
• Erasmus Graduate School of Law (EGSL),
• Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM),
• Tinbergen Institute (TI) in economics, econometrics, and finance,
• Erasmus MC Graduate School,
• Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS),

Although Strategy 2024 is an important step in the right direction for our students, staff, and environment, there are steps the Erasmus University Rotterdam, all faculties mentioned above, and all administrative staff can and should take before the end of 2022. You will be presented with a list of actions the Erasmian community demands the EUR administration, and especially each faculty to take.

This petition demands sustainability as conceptualized in the UNDP Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Thus, the 15 action points we demand you to take are interconnected, and their achievement is going to contribute to the ecological and social sustainability of our university as a whole, with all its institutions and organizations.

This petition is created as a collaboration between several student associations, organizations, groups, and individuals. Thus, the petition represents the demands of the Erasmian community as a whole, including all students, staff, organizations, and other stakeholders. We are not naming all of the individuals, associations, and organizations as this petition is intended to represent the Erasmian community as a whole.

1. Declare a climate and ecological emergency with a call for social and climate justice.
2. Incorporate students’ demands and feedback into the strategy 2024 and more students working around sustainability shall be involved in the sustainability plan of the university.
3. Introduce at least one hygienic reusable water bottle filling system in every building on campus before June 2022.
4. Ban the selling of bottled water on campus(es) before March 2022.
5. Become carbon neutral by 2027.
6. Eliminate all single-use and/or non-recyclable materials such as plastic packaging, single-use cups, and single-use cutlery in all places on campus.
7. Prioritize garbage sorting. Simplify the process and enforce it in all buildings and outside.
8. Become zero food waste as the whole university & related organizations.
9. Ecosia shall be the default search engine on all university devices before June 2022. The Erasmian community shall be encouraged to use Ecosia on their personal devices as well.
10. Make it a priority to achieve diverse & gender-equal staff.
11. Promote plant-based options and a plant-based diet in all parts of the campus(es) & create a fully plant-based campus by 2030.
12. Make the campus accessible for disabled Erasmians.
13. Increase financial aid and merit-based scholarship opportunities for non-EU students.
14. Cut all ties with the fossil fuel industry.
15. Publish faculty-based as well as university-wide annual reports on these demands and other sustainability metrics.

Action 1: Declare a climate and ecological emergency with a call for social and climate justice.

The university should clearly and openly state that a climate emergency is faced in its Strategy 2024, and all faculties shall prioritize sustainability. The university with its faculties and organizations shall accept ALL the action points proposed in this petition, increase the budget and efforts in order to help solve this issue, and set deadlines for all the institutions and organizations to make the transition. Furthermore, the University should openly encourage ALL staff and students to get involved in this transition and help contribute to the solution of this emergency.

Action 2: Incorporate students’ demands and feedback into the strategy 2024 and more students working around sustainability shall be involved in the sustainability plan of the university.

Action 2.1 Broad focus: With this petition, the students, staff, and organizations within Erasmus University Rotterdam share their demands. These fifteen demands must be incorporated into Strategy 2024. Furthermore, the students shall be invited to join and be allowed to contribute to the sustainability goals and plans of the university and faculties. Working on these actions should be done in support of Erasmus Sustainability Hub.

Furthermore, a feedback mechanism for the social and ecological sustainability of the university shall be established. This way, the university shall collect complaints and points of improvement from students and staff, and analyse their perspectives. Moreover, the creation of assemblies as a structure involving all stakeholders should be used. These assemblies shall involve all student associations and be open to all staff and students to join. This way, everyone who wishes to contribute can come, make their voices heard, and become a part of the collective decision making within the university.

Action 2.2 Course & Curriculum focus: Course evaluations shall include a new section where students can evaluate the course and the approaches of tutors and lecturers in terms of its ecological and social sustainability. This feedback section shall involve points like the inclusion of sustainability in the course, the inclusion of SDGs, how the course cooperates with disabilities, race, and gender, whether the tutor addresses students by their preferred pronouns, and more metrics can be added based on the faculties’ preferences and decisions.

Furthermore, when creating content of the courses, there shall be a critical analysis of whether the planned content will help students analyze, understand, mitigate and prevent negative impacts on social and ecological sustainability. This shall be a key objective in course creation and education. More courses relating to social and ecological sustainability should be introduced in programmes.

Action 3: Introduce at least one hygienic reusable water bottle filling system in every building on campus before June 2022.

There are no allocated places only for refilling reusable water bottles in all buildings on campus(es). This causes students and staff to fill in their water bottles in unhygienic sinks and taps. Therefore, we demand all buildings on the campus(es) introduce at least one hygienic water bottle filling system before June 2022. This way, there shall be more opportunities for the Erasmian community to fill their reusable bottles in every building in a hygienic manner. This is a small and urgent action the university and all faculties can take quickly. We demand that these waters streams be put and are ready before 1 June 2022 so the students studying in the 2021-2022 academic year already have access to them.

Action 4: Ban the selling of bottled water on campus before March 2022.

There are at least a million bottled waters sold every single minute, according to The Guardian. To be a pioneering university, we demand all facilities within the campuses to stop the selling of bottled water starting from March 2022. This is an obvious and easy action our university must take to take a step in fulfiling its positive impact vision.

Action 5: Become carbon neutral by 2027.

Through the achievement of the fifteen demands in this petition and setting other ambitious goals for itself, the Erasmus University Rotterdam as a whole shall become carbon neutral by 2027. In the next five years, the university shall start accelerating its transition and reach zero-emission by 2027. Our university is also a participating party to the Rotterdam Climate Agreement, which encourages zero emissions as well as other sustainability goals. Thus, considering both the mission of the University and the Climate Agreement, we demand that Erasmus University Rotterdam reach zero emission by January 2027.

Action 6: Eliminate all single-use and/or non-recyclable materials such as plastic packaging, single-use cups, and single-use cutlery in all places on campus.

The university shall ban and eliminate all forms of single-use plastics in all buildings as well as at SPAR, cafeterias, staff kitchens, and all other places.

Some single-use materials that shall be removed immediately are: The paper cups of the coffee machines, the paper cups in the offices, the plastic food bags and all other plastic packaging at SPAR...
The university shall replace the materials at its own facilities, such as catering, coffee machines, and materials at staff kitchens. Furthermore, SPAR and other entities such as Food Plaza restaurants shall use reusable cups, cutlery, plates, and bowls. 

Action 7: Prioritize garbage sorting. Simplify the process and enforce it in all buildings and outside.

Although there are separate bins for types of garbage, many members of the Erasmian community report that the types of garbage are combined when collecting the garbage bags. This goes completely against the effort in sorting the garbage in the first place. The university shall make sure that the sorted garbage bins stay separate and get sent to the correct facilities.

Furthermore, not all members of the Erasmian community are aware of how to sort garbage. The university shall create simple instructions to help the Erasmian community sort garbage correctly. After all, how garbage is sorted, composted, and recycled is crucial for ecological sustainability.

Action 8: Become zero food waste as the whole university & related organizations.

The University shall keep track of and be transparent about the food waste of the University in all food facilities including The Food Plaza, all cafeterias, Erasmus Pavilijoen, Smitse. These facilities need to take measures to minimize wasted food. They may choose to partner with food waste NGOs, TooGoodToGo, or other organizations.

Furthermore, the food plaza & other entities related to food including The Food Plaza, all cafeterias, Erasmus Pavilijoen, Smitse shall compost the waste food in the campus garden. Thus, the campus garden shall be extended.

Action 9: Ecosia shall be the default search engine on all university devices before June 2022. The Erasmian community shall be encouraged to use Ecosia on their personal devices as well.

We are aware that the IT department of the university has been conducting research on Ecosia for the last two years, but there has not been any change. We demand that Ecosia becomes the default search engine on all university devices before the end of this academic year. All computers, laptops, tablets and other devices owned by the faculties, the university, or offices shall use Ecosia as default. Furthermore, the university shall promote the benefits of using Ecosia as a search engine and encourage the use of Ecosia on personal devices as well.

Action 10: Make it a priority to achieve diverse & gender-equal staff.

The university shall make it a strategic priority to have a diverse teaching staff as well as the  Erasmian community. Especially the executive and the teaching staff shall be gender-equal, and there shall be more representation of other nationalities. This will motivate students, and enrich the learning experience. Furthermore, the university should be fully transparent and communicative about their diversity measures, gender composition of faculties and university employees and actively strive to make the environment as diverse as possible.

​​Action 11: Promote plant-based options and a plant-based diet in all parts of the campus(es) & create a fully plant-based campus by 2030.

Food is a crucial source of emission and inequality across the world. Thus, we demand the university and all food facilities to transition to higher amounts of plant-based options and eventually achieve a fully plant-based campus by 2030. The five sub-points for food below shall be applied.

11.1 All food facilities must have affordable and preferable vegan options.

11.2 Plant-based milk options shall be provided in every coffee machine on campus.

11.3 All food facilities shall actively promote plant-based alternatives by bringing preferable plant-based food and making them more affordable.

11.4 All food products across campus(es) such as coffee, tea shall be fair-trade and have a transparent supply chain.

11.5 The university as a whole shall make a plan to transition to a vegan campus by 2030, and get all caterers involved.

Action 12: Make the campus accessible for disabled Erasmians.

The campuses shall be unprejudiced and accessible for disabled members of the Erasmian community. To achieve this, the university shall ask for guidance from organizations (such as Accessible Academia and many others) and businesses working in ensuring this. Some examples to the many prejudices and challenges disabled people face are “sills in front of buildings (for instance at Café In de Smitse and the V building), doors that are too heavy (like in Polak and the quiet room at the university library), inaccessible disabled toilets (Mandeville), no suitable toilets (G building), too steep a slope (Institutenlaan), broken lifts (like in Theil), impractical routes (Sanders), buttons for the lifts that are too high (Tinbergen)” (Erasmus Magazine, 06.12.2021, written by Tessa Hofland).

Action 13: Increase financial aid and merit-based scholarship opportunities for non-EU students.

Tuition fees for non-EU students are barriers that prevent our university from achieving diversity and inclusion. Educational diversity is hindered due to financial discrimination caused by the lack of consistent financial aid or merit-based scholarships for non-EU individuals, especially in bachelor programs. Implementing consistent financial aid and merit-based scholarship opportunities for non-EU citizens could increase student diversity and hence, improve our learning experience as well as reduce inequality at our university as a whole.

Action 14: Cut all ties with the fossil fuel industry.

The university or any of its related organizations shall not collaborate, support, invite or attend any projects involving the fossil fuel industry.

Action 15: Publish faculty-based as well as university-wide annual reports on these demands and other sustainability metrics.

In order to track how the university as a whole and the faculties individually are doing, these entities shall publish annual sustainability reports where they transparently share the data, goals, and obstacles regarding the achievement of the fifteen action points presented in this petition as well as Strategy 2024. These reports shall be accessible to and shared with the whole Erasmian community. Erasmus MC is already publishing annual Sustainability Reports, and from 2022 onward, all faculties, organizations, and the university as a whole shall publish their own Sustainability Reports. Erasmus Magazine should also share articles simplifying and evaluating these reports to increase accessibility and let the Erasmian community know about these reports for them to read further.

Duurzaamheid is een van de voornaamste pilaren van de Strategie 2024 van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, wat ook verlengd wordt naar alle gerelateerde organisaties. Deze petitie is gericht aan alle faculteiten en organisaties die gerelateerd zijn aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. Deze faculteiten en instituties zijn:

Alhoewel Strategie 2024 een belangrijke stap in de goede richting is voor onze studenten, medewerkers en omgeving, zijn er maatregelen die de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, alle faculteiten die hierboven zijn genoemd en alle administratieve medewerkers kunnen en zouden moeten nemen voor het einde van 2022. Hieronder zal een lijst met acties worden gepresenteerd, waarvan de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap eist dat de EUR administratie en vooral elke faculteit ze implementeert.

Deze petitie eist duurzaamheid zoals het geconceptualiseerd is in de UNDP Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). Aldus, de 15 actiepunten die wij u eisen te ondernemen zijn onderling verbonden en het behalen ervan zal bijdragen aan de ecologische en sociale duurzaamheid van onze universiteit in zijn geheel, met al zijn instituties en organisaties.

Deze petitie is gecreëerd in samenwerking met verschillende studentenverenigingen, organisaties, groepen en individuen. Zo representeert de petitie de eisen van de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap als geheel, inclusief alle studenten, medewerkers, organisaties en andere belanghebbenden. Wij benoemen alle individuen, verenigingen en organisaties niet, omdat deze petitie bedoeld is om de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap in zijn geheel te vertegenwoordigen.

Samenvatting van alle geëiste acties: (u kunt de gedetailleerde uitleg vinden na de samenvatting)

1. Verklaar een klimaat- en ecologische noodtoestand met de oproep voor sociale en klimaatgerechtigheid.
2. Neem de eisen en feedback van studenten in de Strategie 2024 op en betrek meer studenten werkzaam rondom duurzaamheid in het duurzaamheidsplan van de universiteit. 
3. Introduceer ten minste één hygiënisch, herbruikbaar waterfles-vulsysteem in elk gebouw op de campus vóór juni 2022. 
4. Verbied het verkopen van flesjes water op de campus(sen) vóór maart 2022.

9. Ecosia wordt de standaard zoekmachine op alle campus apparaten voor juni 2022. De Erasmiaanse gemeenschap zal aangemoedigd worden om Ecosia ook op hun persoonlijke apparaten te gebruiken.
10. Maak het een prioriteit om een divers en gendergelijk personeel te behalen.
11. Promoot plantaardige opties en een plantaardig dieet op alle plekken op de campus(sen) en creeër een volledig plantaardige campus tegen 2030.
12. Maak de campus toegankelijk voor gehandicapte Erasmianen.
13. Verhoog financiële hulp en op verdiensten gebaseerde beursmogelijkheden voor niet-EU studenten.
14. Verbreek alle banden met de fossiele brandstof industrie.
15. Publiceer zowel facultaire als universiteitsbrede jaarlijkse rapporten op deze eisen en andere duurzaamheids statistieken.

Actie 1: Verklaar een klimaat en ecologische noodtoestand met de oproep voor sociale en klimaatgerechtigheid.

De universiteit moet duidelijk en openlijk verklaren dat het klimaat noodgeval wordt geconfronteerd in de Strategie 2024, en alle faculteiten zullen van duurzaamheid een prioriteit maken. De universiteit, met haar faculteiten en organisaties zal ALLE voorgestelde actiepunten in deze petitie accepteren, het budget en de inspanningen om dit probleem op te lossen verhogen en zal deadlines voor alle instituten en organisaties vaststellen om de transitie te maken. Daarnaast zou de universiteit openlijk al het personeel en de studenten moeten aanmoedigen om betrokken te zijn bij deze transitie en een contributie te leveren voor een oplossing van dit noodgeval.

Actie 2: Neem de eisen en feedback van studenten in de Strategie 2024 op en betrek meer studenten werkzaam rondom duurzaamheid in het duurzaamheidsplan van de universiteit.

Actie 2.1 Brede focus: Met deze petitie delen de studenten, het personeel en de organisaties binnen de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam hun eisen. Deze vijftien eisen moeten worden opgenomen in de Strategie 2024. Verder zullen de studenten uitgenodigd en toegestaan worden om mee te doen en een bijdrage te leveren aan de SDG’s en plannen van de universiteit en de faculteiten. Het werken aan deze acties zou gedaan moeten worden met ondersteuning van de Erasmus Sustainability Hub.

Daarnaast zal er een feedbackmechanisme voor de sociale en ecologische duurzaamheid van de universiteit worden ingesteld. Op deze manier kan de universiteit klachten en verbeterpunten van studenten en personeel verzamelen en hun perspectieven analyseren. Bovendien moet de oprichting van vergaderingen als een structuur waarbij alle belanghebbenden betrokken zijn, worden gebruikt. Bij deze vergaderingen zullen alle studentenverenigingen betrokken zijn en het zal open zijn voor al het personeel en studenten om bij te wonen. Op deze manier kan iedereen komen die wenst een bijdrage te leveren, hun stem laten horen en een deel worden van de collectieve besluitneming binnen de universiteit.

Actie 2.2 Vakken en curriculum focus: Cursusevaluaties zouden een nieuwe sectie moeten bevatten, waarin studenten de cursus en de aanpak van tutoren en docenten kunnen evalueren in termen van de ecologische en sociale duurzaamheid. Deze feedback sectie zal punten omvatten zoals het opnemen van duurzaamheid in de cursus, het opnemen van de SDG's, hoe de cursus omgaat met handicaps, ras en gender, en of de docent studenten aanspreekt met hun gekozen voornaamwoorden. Ook kunnen er meer onderdelen worden toegevoegd op basis van voorkeuren en beslissingen van de faculteiten.

Bovendien zal er bij het maken van de inhoud van de cursussen een kritische analyse plaatsvinden of de geplande inhoud studenten zal helpen bij het analyseren, begrijpen, verminderen en voorkomen van negatieve impacten op sociale en ecologische duurzaamheid. Dit zal een hoofddoelstelling zijn bij het maken van cursussen en educatie. Er zouden meer cursussen op het gebied van sociale en ecologische duurzaamheid in programma's moeten worden geïntroduceerd.

Actie 3: Introduceer ten minste één hygiënisch, herbruikbaar waterfles-vulsysteem in elk gebouw op de campus vóór juni 2022. 

Er zijn geen toegewezen plaatsen voor alleen het bijvullen van herbruikbare waterflessen in alle gebouwen op de campus(sen). Dit zorgt ervoor dat studenten en medewerkers hun waterflessen vullen bij onhygiënische gootstenen en kranen. Daarom eisen we dat alle gebouwen op de campus(sen) vóór juni 2022 minimaal één hygiënisch vulsysteem voor waterflessen invoeren. Op deze manier zullen er meer mogelijkheden zijn voor de Erasmian-gemeenschap om hun herbruikbare flessen in elk gebouw op een hygiënische wijze te vullen. Dit is een kleine en urgente maatregel die de universiteit en alle faculteiten snel kunnen nemen. Wij eisen dat deze waterstations vóór 1 juni 2022 worden aangelegd en gereed zijn, zodat de studenten die in studiejaar 2021-2022 studeren er al toegang tot hebben.

Actie 4: Verbied het verkopen van flesjes water op de campus(sen) vóór maart 2022.

Er worden per minuut minstens een miljoen flessen water verkocht, aldus The Guardian. Om een voorlopende universiteit te zijn, eisen wij dat alle faciliteiten binnen de campussen stoppen met het verkopen van flessen water vanaf maart 2022. Dit is een voor de hand liggende en makkelijke actie die onze universiteit moet nemen om een stap te nemen richting haar visie voor een positieve impact.

Actie 5: Word CO2-neutraal tegen 2027.

Door het realiseren van de vijftien eisen in deze petitie en het stellen van andere ambitieuze doelen voor haarzelf, zal de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam als geheel in 2027 CO2-neutraal zijn. De komende vijf jaar zal de universiteit haar duurzaamheidstransitie versnellen en CO2-neutraal worden in 2027. Onze universiteit is ook deelnemer aan het Rotterdams Klimaatakkoord, dat naast andere duurzaamheidsdoelen ook nul-emissie stimuleert. Daarom eisen we, gezien zowel de missie van de universiteit als het Klimaatakkoord, dat de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam tegen januari 2027 CO2-neutraalheid bereikt.

Actie 6: Elimineer al het eenmalig bruikbare en/of niet-recyclebare materiaal zoals plastic verpakkingen, wegwerpbekers en wegwerpbestek op alle locaties op de campus.

De universiteit zal alle vormen van plastic voor enkel gebruik verbieden en verwijderen in zowel alle gebouwen als de SPAR, cafetaria’s, personeelskeukens en overige locaties.

Sommige eenmalig bruikbare materialen die onmiddellijk moeten worden verwijderd zijn: de papieren bekers van de koffiezetapparaten; de papieren bekers in de kantoorruimtes; de plastic broodzakjes en alle andere plastic verpakkingen bij de SPAR...
De universiteit zal alle eenmalig bruikbare materialen in haar eigen gebouwen, zoals bij de catering, koffieapparaten  en personeelskeukens moeten vervangen. Daarbij moeten de SPAR en andere eetgelegenheden, zoals de Food Plaza restaurants, gebruik maken van herbruikbare bekers, bestek, borden en kommen.

Actie 7: Maak het sorteren van afval een prioriteit. Vergemakkelijk het proces en handhaaf het in alle gebouwen en buiten.

Hoewel er aparte afvalbakken zijn voor verschillende soorten afval, melden veel leden van de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap dat de verschillende soorten afval worden gecombineerd bij het verzamelen van de vuilniszakken. Dit druist volledig in tegen de inspanning om het afval in de eerste plaats te sorteren. De universiteit moet ervoor zorgen dat de gesorteerde vuilnisbakken gescheiden blijven en naar de juiste voorzieningen worden gestuurd.

Bovendien weten niet alle leden van de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap hoe ze afval moeten sorteren. De universiteit zal eenvoudige instructies moeten opstellen om de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap te helpen bij het correct sorteren van afval. De manier waarop afval wordt gesorteerd, gecomposteerd en gerecycled is immers cruciaal voor ecologische duurzaamheid.

Actie 8: Stop voedselverspilling op de gehele universiteit en gerelateerde organisaties.

De universiteit zal haar voedselverspilling in de gaten houden en er transparant over zijn. Alle voedselvoorzieningen, waaronder The Food Plaza, alle cafetaria's, Erasmus Paviljoen en de Smitse moeten maatregelen nemen om voedselverspilling tot een minimum te beperken. Ze kunnen ervoor kiezen om samen te werken met NGO's, TooGoodToGo of andere organisaties.

Verder zullen alle voedsel gerelateerde faciliteiten, waaronder de Food Plaza, alle cafetaria's, Erasmus Paviljoen en de Smitse de etensresten in de campus moestuin composteren. Hiervoor zal de campus moestuin worden uitgebreid.

Actie 9: Ecosia wordt de standaard zoekmachine op alle campus apparaten voor juni 2022. De Erasmiaanse gemeenschap zal aangemoedigd worden om Ecosia ook op hun persoonlijke apparaten te gebruiken.

We zijn ervan bewust dat de ICT-afdeling van de universiteit al de afgelopen twee jaar onderzoek doet naar Ecosia, maar dat heeft niet geleid tot verandering. We eisen dat Ecosia voor het einde van dit studiejaar de standaardzoekmachine wordt op alle universitaire apparaten. Alle computers, laptops, tablets en andere apparaten die eigendom zijn van de faculteiten, de universiteit of kantoorruimtes, moeten Ecosia als standaard zoekmachine gebruiken. Verder zal de universiteit de voordelen van het gebruik van Ecosia als zoekmachine promoten en ook het gebruik van Ecosia op persoonlijke apparaten aanmoedigen.

Actie 10: Maak het een prioriteit om een divers en gendergelijk personeel te behalen.

De universiteit zal het een strategische prioriteit maken om zowel divers onderwijzend personeel als de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap te hebben. Vooral het bestuur en het onderwijzend personeel zullen gendergelijk zijn en er zal meer vertegenwoordiging zijn van andere nationaliteiten. Dit zal studenten motiveren en hun leerervaring verrijken. Daarnaast moet de universiteit volledig transparant en communicatief zijn over hun diversiteitsmaatregelen, de gendersamenstelling van de faculteiten en het personeel en actief streven naar een zo divers mogelijke omgeving.

Actie 11: Promoot plantaardige opties en een plantaardig dieet op alle plekken op de campus(sen) en creeër een volledig plantaardige campus tegen 2030.

Voedsel is een cruciale bron van emissies en ongelijkheid over de hele wereld. Daarom eisen we van de universiteit en alle eetgelegenheden dat ze overgaan op meer plantaardige opties en uiteindelijk een volledig plantaardige campus bereiken in 2030. De volgende vijf subpunten voor voedsel zullen worden toegepast.

11.1 Alle eetgelegenheden moeten betaalbare en bij voorkeur veganistische opties hebben.

11.2 Plantaardige alternatieven voor melk zullen beschikbaar zijn in elk koffiezetapparaat op de campus.

11.3 Alle eetgelegenheden zullen actief plantaardige alternatieven stimuleren door bij voorkeur plantaardig eten aan te bieden en deze opties betaalbaarder te maken.

11.4 Alle etenswaren en dranken op de campus(sen) zoals koffie en thee zullen fair-trade zijn en een transparante productieketen hebben.

11.5 De universiteit in haar geheel zal een plan maken om over te stappen op een veganistische campus in 2030 en zal alle leveranciers erbij betrekken.

Actie 12: Maak de campus toegankelijk voor gehandicapte Erasmianen.

De campussen zullen onbevooroordeeld zijn en toegankelijk zijn voor gehandicapte leden van de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap. Om dit te bereiken zal de universiteit om begeleiding vragen van organisaties (zoals Accessible Academia en vele anderen) en bedrijven die hieraan werken. Enkele voorbeelden van de vele vooroordelen en uitdagingen waar mensen met een handicap mee te maken hebben zijn “drempels voor gebouwen (bijvoorbeeld bij Café In de Smitse en het V-gebouw), deuren die te zwaar zijn (zoals in Polak en de stilteruimte bij de universiteitsbibliotheek), ontoegankelijke invalidentoiletten (Mandeville), geen geschikte toiletten (G-gebouw), een te steile helling (Institutenlaan), kapotte liften (zoals in Theil), onpraktische routes (Sanders), knoppen voor de liften die te hoog zijn (Tinbergen)” (Erasmus Magazine, 06.12.2021, geschreven door Tessa Hofland).

Actie 13: Verhoog financiële hulp en op verdiensten gebaseerde beursmogelijkheden voor niet-EU studenten.

Collegegeld voor niet-EU studenten zijn barrières die onze universiteit ervan weerhouden om diversiteit en inclusie te bereiken. Diversiteit binnen het onderwijs wordt belemmerd door financiële discriminatie, veroorzaakt door het gebrek aan consistente financiële hulp of op verdiensten gebaseerde beurzen voor niet-EU burgers, vooral in bachelorprogramma's. Het implementeren van consistente financiële hulp en op verdiensten gebaseerde beurzen voor niet-EU burgers zou de diversiteit van studenten kunnen vergroten. Hiermee zou onze leerervaring kunnen verbeteren en de ongelijkheid op onze universiteit in haar geheel kunnen verminderen.

Actie 14: Verbreek alle banden met de fossiele brandstof industrie.

De universiteit of een van haar gerelateerde organisaties zal niet samenwerken met, ondersteunen, uitnodigen of deelnemen aan projecten waarbij de fossiele brandstofindustrie betrokken is.

Actie 15: Publiceer zowel facultaire als universiteitsbrede jaarlijkse rapporten op deze eisen en andere duurzaamheids statistieken.

Om bij te houden hoe de universiteit als geheel en de faculteiten er individueel voor staan, zullen deze entiteiten jaarlijks duurzaamheidsverslagen publiceren waarin ze op transparante wijze de gegevens, doelen en obstakels delen met betrekking tot het behalen van de vijftien actiepunten die in deze petitie worden gepresenteerd, evenals de Strategie 2024. Deze verslagen zullen toegankelijk zijn voor en gedeeld worden met de hele Erasmiaanse gemeenschap. Het Erasmus MC brengt al jaarlijkse Duurzaamheidsverslagen uit en vanaf 2022 zullen alle faculteiten, organisaties en de universiteit als geheel hun eigen Duurzaamheidsverslagen uitbrengen. Erasmus Magazine zou ook artikelen moeten delen die deze verslagen vereenvoudigen en evalueren om de toegankelijkheid te vergroten en de Erasmiaanse gemeenschap op de hoogte stellen van deze verslagen, zodat ze deze zelf verder kunnen lezen.
